Phi Lambda Chapter

University of South Alabama - Mobile, AL

The Phi Lambda chapter of Phi Boota roota, based out of Mobile, AL, was brought to The University of South Alabama by Emily Weaver, a former brother of Alpha Zeta (Troy University). With the help of academic advisor Dr. Luis Rivera and Founding Fathers Ryan Boehme, Sabrina de Jong, Jessica Gainey, Jeremy Pruit, and Luke Smith, Phi Lambda was recognized as an on-campus, student organization on February 8, 2016. The Phi Lambda chapter emphasizes the expansion of knowledge in the percussive arts as well as the awareness and support of the rich culture of the arts that Mobile possesses. Members have a common knowledge of scales and rudiments as well as maintenance and care of all percussion instruments and equipment. They raise funds to purchase sticks, mallets, small auxiliary instruments, and more for low-income schools in the area and hold master classes for middle/high schoolers. Just being a nationally recognized chapter in May of 2016, the Phi Lambda chapter has many plans and ideas to spread the knowledge of the fraternity and its purpose not only at the University of South Alabama but throughout the entire city of Mobile.
